Chlamydia Project funded by CDC

 

Healthy Lifestyle: Chlamydia outreach and evaluation project funded by the City of Philadelphia Department of Health

 

Project Lead: A breast cancer education and evaluation project for at risk women in the City of Philadelphia.

 

Physicians for Social Responsibility: A domestic violence training and evaluation project for health care providers in the City of Philadelphia.

 

HIV/AIDS

The staff at SONA Consulting had post doctoral training and experience in the areas of HIV/AIDS.

Examples of the HIV/AIDS project related activities include:

Wrote and submitted a grant proposal entitled "Self Disclosure of Serostatus by HIV Infected Drug Injectors" to National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA).

AIDS Out- Reach Project.  

 

Published a paper entitled "Using Retrospective Behavioral Data to determine HIV Risk Factors among Street Recruited Drug Injectors in New York City" as a first author in a peer reviewed journal.

 

Published an abstract entitled Risk Factors for HIV-1 Infection among Street Recruited Drug Users" in Problems of Drug Dependence, 1992.  NIDA Research Monograph, 132, 

 

Organized a poster session on Risk factors for HIV-1 Infection Among Street Recruited IV Drug Users" at the Annual Scientific Meeting of college on Problems of Drug Dependence,

 

Develop training curriculum and provide training to health care workers in India on AIDS prevention and Education.

 

Substance Abuse

SONA Consulting staff have training and experience in the areas of substance abuse.

Examples of the substance abuse project related activities include:

Was part of a team to write a project proposal on Drug Treatment for Female Offenders for submission to National Institute of Justice.

Organized and chaired a session on Drugs, Minority Women and Crime, served as a discussant in a session on drug abuse and criminalization of pregnancy and chaired a session on Alcohol abuse at the annual meetings of the American Society of Criminology.

 

Project to analyze criminal histories of probationers and parolees in the drug treatment programs  for the State of Delaware.

 

Maternal and Child Health

SONA Consulting staff have wide range of experience in the areas of maternal and child health.

 Examples of maternal and child health related project activities include:

Title X project:  A need-assessment and reproductive health service project in South Eastern Pennsylvania.

 

Healthy Start project:  A maternal and child health service and evaluation project for women in the Chester county of Pennsylvania.

 

TALENT project: A pregnancy prevention demonstration and evaluation project for TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) clients

 

Abuelas project: A pregnancy and substance abuse prevention demonstration and evaluation project for at risk teenage women in the City of Philadelphia.

 

Crime and Justice

SONA Consulting staff have taught Criminology and Criminal Justice courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.

 Examples of crime and justice related project activities include:

Analyzed data on Female Victims of Murder‑Suicide in the state of Delaware 1979‑1989 and presented a paper at the annual meeting of American Society of Criminology.

 

Project to analyze criminal histories of probationers and parolees in the drug  treatment  programs for the State of Delaware.

SONA Consulting staff  have  been involved in studying the needs, communities and experiences of women, minorities, immigrant and special populations for almost two decades.

Examples of project activities include:

Technical  Assistance for HIV/AIDS Prevention among Gay Men of African Descent.

Technical assistance, site assessment and program evaluation for minority youth serving community agencies in the city of Philadelphia.

 

 Published a book entitled On the Trail of an Uncertain Dream - Indian Immigrant Experience in the United States (AMS Press, 1989)

 

Published an article entitled “Conjugal Roles and Social Network in Indian Immigrant Families: Bott Revisited" in a peer reviewed journal.

 

Presented a paper entitled "Indian immigrant women in an Isolated Nuclear Family, A Burdensome Proposition" at the annual meeting Eastern Sociological Society 

 

"Asian Indian Community in the U.S.: Cultural - Reaffirmation within an Ethnic Enclave" Paper presented  t the World Congress of International Sociological, Association.
